There are some wines that leave a lasting impression, and every once in a while it’s worth opening another bottle to see if your first experience still holds up. As we continue exploring more New Jersey wines each week, we’ve found that revisiting a favorite can be just as enjoyable as discovering something new.
For this Weekly Wine Review, we uncorked Hey Bett, a white field blend from Federal Twist Vineyards in Stockton, New Jersey. We first tasted this wine some time ago, but since then we’ve spent more time learning about New Jersey grape varieties and how to better appreciate the wines produced throughout the state.
The question was simple: Would we enjoy Hey Bett just as much the second time around?
The answer didn’t take long.
Weekly Wine Review of Federal Twist Vineyards Hey Bett White Field Blend

On a warm summer evening, there are few things better than relaxing outside with a chilled bottle of local wine. That’s exactly the setting for this week’s tasting.
As soon as the wine was poured into the glass, it immediately caught our attention. Hey Bett displayed a rich golden color that looked inviting without being overly dark. The wine was bright, clear, and crisp, giving a good first impression before taking the first sip.
Like many New Jersey white wines, it looked refreshing while still showing a little extra richness in the glass.
Aromatic Notes in This New Jersey White Field Blend
One of the most enjoyable parts of tasting wine is taking a moment to appreciate the aromas before the first sip.
Hey Bett offered a pleasant bouquet with soft floral notes that immediately stood out. Honeysuckle was one of the first aromas we noticed, followed by fresh stone fruit characteristics.
As the wine opened up, hints of ripe apricot and pear became more noticeable. The aromas remained balanced throughout the tasting without becoming overpowering.
The combination of floral and fruit-forward notes created a welcoming nose that fit perfectly with the wine’s easy-drinking personality.

How Does Hey Bett Taste?
The palate delivered much of what the aromas suggested.
Hey Bett has a mild sweetness that makes it approachable without becoming overly sugary. The sweetness is balanced by a gentle acidity that arrives toward the finish, helping keep each sip refreshing.
The wine has a medium body, giving it enough weight to feel satisfying while remaining crisp and easy to enjoy during warmer weather.
One of the things we appreciated most was how smooth the wine felt from beginning to end. Nothing seemed out of balance, making it an easy bottle to relax with over the course of an evening.
After revisiting this wine, we found ourselves enjoying it every bit as much as we remembered.
What Grapes Are Used in Federal Twist Vineyards Hey Bett?
Hey Bett is a field blend made from two grape varieties that perform especially well in New Jersey vineyards:
- Traminette
- Vidal Blanc
Both grapes are well suited to the region’s growing conditions and are frequently used by New Jersey wineries to produce aromatic white wines with bright fruit flavors and refreshing acidity.
Traminette often contributes floral aromas and spice, while Vidal Blanc adds vibrant fruit character and freshness. Together they create a balanced blend that is approachable for both newer wine drinkers and longtime fans of New Jersey wines.
Learning more about these varieties has made us appreciate wines like Hey Bett even more as we’ve continued exploring the state’s growing wine industry.
Food Pairings for Hey Bett White Field Blend
One of the strengths of this wine is its versatility with food. The light sweetness and refreshing finish make it an excellent companion for a variety of summer meals.
Some great pairing ideas include:
- Grilled chicken
- Fresh green salads
- Seasonal fruit platters
- Mild cheeses
- Light seafood dishes
- Picnic lunches
- Fresh vegetables with light dips
While Hey Bett certainly pairs well with food, we actually enjoyed it after dinner on its own. It made for a relaxing summer evening and reminded us that not every bottle needs a formal pairing to be appreciated.

The Story Behind Hey Bett
One of the details that makes this wine especially memorable is the story behind its name.
Hey Bett was created in honor of the family’s grandmother, Betty, giving the wine a personal connection that adds a little extra character to every bottle.
It’s always nice to see local wineries celebrating family traditions through their wines, and this blend is a great example of that.
